Cohen & Slamowitz – My Experience
“Debt Collectors Like Cohen & Slamowitz Ruining Your Credit?”
Fight Back With Help From Lexington Law. Check Out My Fully Documented, True Story of How I Repaired My Credit.
If you’re reading this article, you’ve probably recently had a rude awakening to the world of debt collection. I used to be blissfully unaware of the whole concept of debt collectors ruining people’s credit too. I thought debt collectors mainly went after people who were practically bankrupt. I never dreamed that they would come after someone like me.
I’d never even seen a copy of my credit report until I decided to buy a new car. Not a new-to-me car, but a straight-from-the-dealership, latest model year kind of new car. I’d been doing pretty well financially, and I’d just gotten another raise at work, so I was pretty excited to go into the car dealership and look around.
All that excitement got shot dead as soon as the car salesman pulled up a copy of my credit report. He showed me the printout, which showed a score of 501 and a big fat F rating. I was humiliated. I knew that I had absolutely no hope of getting financing with such a bad credit score. I slunk out of that car dealership with my tail between my legs and my dreams in pieces at my feet.
At first I didn’t even understand what the problem was. Then I looked at the credit report again, and I saw something called a civil judgment. Turns out, a civil judgment is another way of saying credit judgment. It basically means that you owe your creditors a debt that has been validated in a court of law. Credit judgments are absolutely devastating to your credit rating. No wonder my score was only 501 points!

In addition to the civil judgment, I also saw a collections item from Cohen & Slamowitz. Coincidentally, at about this same time the post office finally started forwarding mail from my old address, and I received a huge pile of mail from these Cohen & Slamowitz characters.
Apparently they’d been after me for a while, and I hadn’t even realized it because of my problem with the post office. Even so, I had trouble understanding how a civil judgment had gotten on my credit report without my knowledge. I found the answer when I researched Cohen & Slamowitz online. Apparently they have a history of not serving their clients with proper legal paperwork before suing them. In one case, Cohen & Slamowitz sued a woman after claiming to have served the papers to her husband. The woman’s husband had been dead for several years at the time! Needless to say, this case was thrown out of court.
I thought I might have a case against Cohen & Slamowitz, and I figured I had to at least try to get their civil judgment off of my credit report. After all, the consequences of a civil judgment are really hard to live with. Here are just a few of the problems you might face as the result of a civil judgment:
-Damaged Credit Score. A civil judgment or credit judgment will remain on your credit report for 10 to 12 years! During that time I can lower your credit score 250 points.
-Damaged Reputation. Because civil judgments are public record, anyone can see them, including potential employers, lenders, and landlords. In the eyes of anyone who sees your credit report, you will be an irresponsible person who probably can’t be trusted to hold up your end of a business arrangement.
-Asset Seizure. Your creditors could get a ruling that allows them to seize your assets, auction them off, and use the proceeds to pay off your debt.
-Liens. If your credits manage to place a lien on your home or property, they can then force you to sell in order to pay off your debt.
-Garnished Wages. In extreme cases, your creditors may get permission to garnish your wages. This means they can take your hard-earned money straight out of your bank account or paycheck.
I knew I couldn’t spend the next 10 to 12 years in fear of these things happening to me. It was impossible to hide from this problem! When I started researching possible solutions, I discovered Lexington Law.
What really stood out to me about Lexington Law was the fact that, unlike other credit repair services, they didn’t require a big chunk of change upfront before they’d even discuss my case with me. Instead, they offered a free phone consultation and a no-risk refund policy. To me, this showed that Lexington Law had a lot of faith in their ability to get positive results for their clients. Their track record certainly supported this idea–in 2010 they removed one million negative items from the credit bureaus on behalf of their clients!
As I read more about Lexington Law, I realized that I should also ask them to help me with my collection item from Cohen & Slamowitz. I really needed to nip that one in the bud before it could turn into a credit judgment. Lexington Law could help me exercise my legal rights in several ways.
First, they would begin a debt validation inquiry on my behalf. This means that they would force Cohen & Slamowitz to prove that I owed the debt represented by the collection item. If they couldn’t prove it, it would be deleted.
Next, Lexington Law could investigate the statute of limitations for my state and find out if the debts Cohen & Slamowitz was trying to collect were still valid. If the statute of limitations had expired, I wouldn’t be held responsible for the debt.
Lexington Law could also investigate my case and see if any of Cohen & Slamowitz’s actions had violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act or the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Cohen and Slamowitz was deleted from my credit reports within days. As a result, my credit score jumped immediately!
I was pleased with what I had learned, so I decided to call Lexington Law for my free consultation. I spoke with a very friendly and knowledgeable representative who confirmed everything I’d read online. She assured me that Lexington Law could help if I would just give them a chance.
Once I hired Lexington Law, I felt a whole lot better about myself. I stopped beating myself up for making some stupid financial mistakes in the past. Sure, my credit score had dipped 250 points as a result of those mistakes, but the damage didn’t have to be permanent! I finally felt like I was taking action and doing something positive about my problem.

In just 30 days, I began to see results from Lexington Law’s credit repair service. My civil judgment and the collection item from Cohen & Slamowitz were both removed from my credit report. I got letters from all three credit bureaus–TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax–proving that it was really true! In a short time, my credit score had improved significantly, and I was able to go back to the car dealership and get my new car.
Taking my kids for their first ride in my new car was a really proud moment for me. I felt like a good provider for my family, and we were all happy to have a brand new, reliable car to replace our old one. By helping me, Lexington Law helped my whole family. I can’t tell you how grateful we all are.
